Lack of Names
After a quick Google search, I find that ‘to achieve’ has travelled from the French: ‘a chief’. Its Spanish equivalent (‘lograr’) is equally recognisable; from the Latin ‘lucrare’: to gain, to obtain. The closest word I can find in English is ‘lucrative’.
‘To achieve’ comes to mind when new year’s resolutions are wearing out. Now it brings a strange sensation, somehow it seems that people around me are committed to them. Maybe I notice this because, so far, I’m sticking to mine. Like when we fall in love with someone with an unusual name and we begin to hear it all the time.
It may be utterly misleading; too many impressions are. Am I reading too much of myself in this trend? Then, a few more questions appear. When does an achievement stop being measurable? What’s after it? A part of this blog can be tracked (publishing every day), even the quality of these texts could be analysed with metrics like the number of visitors or social media shares; but its most powerful impact depends solely on me, on my intuition and my ability to dialogue with myself.
At some point in every experience, words no longer function. It’s the place of creativity and poetry. The attempt to name whatever lacks a name.
